Title: DON’T LOSE WEIGHT
Topic: Special Sermon
Discussed by Dr. Brent Taylor
with First Baptist Church at the Fields (https://www.firstfields.org/)
Day 5
WHY DO NAMES MATTER? WHY DO WE PLACE SUCH IMPORTANCE ON WHAT WE NAME OUR CHILDREN? DO NAMES CARRY WEIGHT? BUT THE REAL QUESTION IS: WHY DOES IT MATTER HOW WE SPEAK THE NAME OF JESUS AND THE NAME OF GOD?
This week, Dr. Brent Taylor shares his thoughts about the commandment found in Exodus 20:7 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.”
Dr. Brent Taylor is the Senior Pastor at

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:
Yesterday, Dr. Taylor began sharing ways we can honor the name of God. Today, he completes that list with the final suggestion: Form your life to represent the name you bear. Live out your faith every day – not just on Sundays! If you missed the first three suggestions, check out the segment from yesterday in our archives.
Dr. Taylor closes the sermon with an extra-long call to salvation. He also encourages those who are saved to examine their life and how they are using and misusing the name of God.
If you have never accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, simply text the word JESUS to 77069 and a pastor or counselor from CFBC will call you back.

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:
Have you ever used the name of God to inform someone that
“God told me ….. about you”? Is this blasphemy?
Dr. Taylor offers a stern warning: “God’s name is never a power play!”
How can insincerity and inconsistency while using the Lord’s name be considered a sin – and using God’s name in vain? (Matthew 15:8)
Dr. Taylor again offers a warning to be careful and to remember that we are ambassadors of Christ.
HOW TO HONOR THE NAME OF GOD
Take this commandment to heart. Be serious about it.
Study and claim the names of God. Speak them often over yourself and your loved ones.
Ask God to make His name known. (Isaiah 26:8; Hosea 12:5) Dr. Taylor has a great suggestion to help us get started!

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:
What did Paul write about the importance of a name – especially the name of God? (Acts 17:22-23)
Do you consider God’s Holy name to be a treasure? (Psalm 111:9)
How is God’s name misused? Is it really that important to God? Dr. Taylor discusses the obvious misuses, specifically profanity – which isn’t just bad words, by the way! He also explains that dishonesty/lying is considered to be a misuse of God’s name.
But WHY doesn’t God like his name to be misused? What is the reason/reasons?
