Day 5
LIFE IS FULL OF DISAPPOINTMENTS AND HARDSHIPS. SOMETIMES IT’S HARD TO FIND THE STRENGTH TO GO ON – LET ALONE THE JOY TO PRAISE GOD THROUGH THE TEARS.
This week, very special guest General Doug Carver presents the sermon from Champion Forest Baptist Church. General Carver is the Chief of Chaplains for the United States Army and he definitely has some harrowing stories to tell. But, through every story, there is courage, strength, and joy found in Jesus.
Scripture Passage: Joshua 1:1-9

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:
Why is it so hard for us to praise God in the midst of tragedy? General Doug Carver shares about one of his most challenging assignments as a Chaplain in the US Army. He remembers August 30, 2010, when a fellow chaplain was killed in action.
Did Jesus warn us that we would experience hardships? Did he know that his assignment was to take those hardships upon himself?
General Carver closes the sermon with one final story that was absolutely tragic for the soldier involved. How did he survive?
FINAL THOUGHTS
Travis Mills: “Keep moving. Don’t stop. It might be tough, but the Lord God will be with you until the end. And you can take that to the bank.”

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:
July 4, 2007: General Doug Carver was celebrating the festivities overlooking Washington, DC, when a soldier approached him with an incredible story. This soldier had a tough decision to make that would change his life forever. How did General Carver encourage this young soldier?
Yesterday, General Carver asked: What impossible task has God placed in your path? Today, he gives an amazing motivational talk, reminding us that God is our refuge and strength and we can do all things through Him. In fact, He PROMISES to never leave or forsake us and NOTHING can separate us from the love of God. Take comfort in that today! (Psalm 73:25; Psalm 23; Isaiah 43:2)

General Doug Carver begins the sermon thanking the pastors of CFBC for the opportunity to speak, choking up as he talks about his family – both his personal family and his military family, especially those who served in Vietnam. He then shares about his time in Germany twenty-three years ago before he was deployed to Iraq. What did he learn about courage that day? And how did he, in turn, encourage the troops before him? Well, you’ll just have to tune in tomorrow for the rest of the story!
