Title: USPS Discounts Shipping at OUR Expense
Topic: United States Postal Service
Discussed by Ross Marchand
with Taxpayer Protection Alliance (www.protectingtaxpayers.org)

Due to financial mismanagement and shortsightedness, the Post Office offered sweetheart deals to major retailers so they could compete with private shipping services like UPS and FedEx.

Ross Marchand, with Taxpayer Protection Alliance, answers the following question: Why should WE, the taxpayers, be held financially responsible for a bad deal made by some inept and incompetent federal bureaucrat?

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Economics 101: If my money flowing out exceeds the dollars coming in, this will lead to a financial disaster? Same with a company or organization. What consequences can arise?

Should customers of the Post Office pay a fair price for services received?

Should business and organizations be offered a discount for being valued customers?

Ross discusses more details about the “sweetheart deal” the USPS made with some major retailers during the past few Thanksgiving and Christmas shopping seasons…

In this deal, did the government pick winners and losers?

Why is this deal such a secret? Ross discusses the “blacked out papers” they were given concerning the deal…

Discussed by Ross Marchand
with Taxpayer Protection Alliance (www.protectingtaxpayers.org)

Breaking: Watchdog group slams the US Postal Service for gigantic loss. Are calls for reform falling on deaf ears?

TPA President David Williams expressed alarm over the financials, stating, “For more than a decade, policymakers and citizens across the country have called for the USPS to clean up its act and deliver mail in a transparent, cost-effective manner.

Ross Marchand expands on Williams’ statement in today’s segment. Ross interned for the Texas Public Policy Foundation and the American Legislative Exchange Council. He is now the Director of Policy at the Taxpayers Protection Alliance.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

What is the current net loss of the US Postal Service?

When was the last time the USPS was profitable?

After recent losses, did the Postal Agency promise a ten-year business plan by July 1st of this year?

What excuses has the USPS given for their losses? Ross says the excuses are out the “wazoo”!

How did the German postal service improve efficiency and cut costs? Listen close! This is interesting…and a little weird! But it works!

What suggestions does Ross and the TPA have for the USPS?
