Segregated bathrooms have been a tradition since the 1700’s in Paris. American bathrooms have been divided since 1887 when Massachusetts passed a law requiring businesses to provide different bathrooms for males and females. In fact, as quoting from the law, “the mixed use of such facilities is prohibited”.
