Title: The Inefficient Immigration System
Topic: Immigration
Discussed by Dr. Katherine Fidler
with Texas Public Policy Foundation (www.TexasPolicy.com)

Part 1 of 3

Dr. Katherine Fidler is an independent consultant specializing in humanitarian law, insurgency and counter-insurgency studies, and refugee studies with a particular focus on sub-Saharan Africa. Dr. Fidler has conducted extensive research on refugee populations in central and southern Africa between 2007 and the present. Currently, she works with immigration attorneys in New York, the District of Columbia, Louisiana, and Texas to provide information regarding political asylum and right of removal claims.

The current visa system has proven woefully inadequate for those persons seeking lawful entry to the United States,” Fidler states. “The strain placed on state and federal infrastructure is significant and the concern about the impact of unauthorized immigration demonstrated by residents in these areas is understandable.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Many on the left deem the phrase “illegal alien” to be derogatory. However, the term “alien” is a legal term used to describe a foreigner in not only the US but across the world. Listen in as Dr. Fidler explains this further.

What is the difference between foreign-born, immigrant, and native-born?

Title: Part 2 of 3 - The Inefficient Immigration System

Is Texas at the mercy of the Federal Government when it comes to border issues?

FACT: There are only 40 judges in Texas who are handling a back-log of nearly 90,000 cases concerning illegal aliens. In Houston alone, there are roughly 6,000 cases.

How long does a typical case take, from arrest to either deportation, imprisonment, or release? Is the illegal alien granted the right to work?

How long would an American most likely be allowed to stay, whether free or in jail, if they were in another country illegally?

Are the FBI and those in Washington lying about the true number of illegal immigrants in the United States? “Honestly, they don’t have a clue as to what they are doing,” Dr. Fidler states boldly.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

How many foreign-born immigrants in Texas own small businesses in the state?

Are the majority of aliens in Texas collecting welfare benefits or are they working?

LListen in as Dr. Fidler reveals the areas which need the most attention, not only from Texas Legislators but from the Federal Government as well. “What is a problem, and will continue to be a problem for the foreseeable short-term, is that there is no coherent legislation with the visa system or reforming the judicial system,” she believes.
