Title: Give More Than A Cup of Cold Water
Topic: Helping Persecuted Christians
Discussed by Father John Whiteford
with Orthodox Houston (www.OrthodoxHouston.org)
The Orthodox Church
goes back to the time of the Apostles. Throughout history, there have been times
of division, times of peace, and times of turmoil.
St. John Chrysostom, Homily IX once said this about Colossians: "This is the
cause of all evils: the ignorance of the Scriptures. We go into battle without
arms, and how ought we to come off safe?" The same can be said about
spiritual battles being waged and fought across the globe today.
Father John Whiteford is with Orthodox Houston. He gives a brief background of
the Orthodox Church, how it relates to today, and why we must learn from the
past and press on toward a unified future.
As Christians, we are called to help others. The organization, Orthodox Houston,
is very concerned with the tyranny that Christians, Orthodox Jews, Protestants,
and Muslims are suffering in the Middle East.
First and foremost, Father John urges people to contact their senators and urge
them not to arm rebels in Syria. He explains why this will be absolutely
devastating to Christians in Syria and discusses other ways you can send help to
those being persecuted in the Middle East.

your church to raise awareness about the plight of Christians in the Middle
East.
