New word for today: Sex-tor-tion….sextortion….
Federal prosecutors and child safety advocates are seeing an upswing in cases of
online sexual extortion, a.k.a. “sextortion.”
Teens who text nude cell phone photos of themselves or show off their bodies on
the Internet are being contacted by pornographers who threaten to expose their
behavior to friends and family unless they pose for more explicit porn.
This creates a nonstop cycle of vicious child exploitation.
Since teens are much more vulnerable to blackmail, parents should take the steps
necessary to ensure they’re monitoring a child or teenager’s online activity.
Dr. Bill Bennett, former Secretary of Education, has teamed up with Safe
Communications Inc. in a new education initiative that offers parents the
opportunity to protect their children from predators, cyber-bullies, sexting and
vulgar e-mails.
“We can never do enough to keep our children safe", says Dr. Bill Bennett. The
tragedy is when we do too little. No parent should ever have to say, ‘If only I
had done more.”
