Title: A Walk through the Dark
Topic: Ninety Minutes in Heaven
Discussed by Eva Piper
with Eva Piper

Part 1 of 2

Eva Piper is Don’s wife. She was just a mom and wife and school teacher. In fact, she was at school, teaching, when she was summoned to the main office and told her husband was dead. She was totally unprepared, in more ways than one. She reveals how Don was the decision-maker in their family and suddenly that job was thrust upon her. She had to pay the bills. She was the one her kids looked to. She was basically a single parent.

Eva Piper does offer hope, though. There is always hope – and encouragement. She says it is very important to maintain a good relationship with your family. Family is essential. Others may fail you, but family will be there through thick and thin. Also, develop friendships with others at church. Don’t just attend a church; get involved and make friends. Those who really know you will be there to help out with the day-to-day craziness.

Discussed by Eva Piper

Actions speak louder than words. In this second segment, Eva continues to discuss the importance of friends and family, especially when tragedy strikes. If you want your friends and family to be there for you, you should also be there for them. Show them you love and care through your actions. Don’t just ask “What can I help with?” Be specific. And when it’s your turn in need of the favor, don’t let pride get in the way. Humble yourself and let people know what you need, even if you think it’s embarrassing.

Eva also discusses the moment Don told her about dying and going to heaven. She knew instantly that he was telling the truth. Many people wondered if Eva was angry with Don for not telling her sooner, or telling her first. Listen in as she explains why she was never angry.

Eva Piper wrote a book about her side of the story regarding her husband’s tragic accident, death, and coming back to life 90 minutes later. Her book is entitled, A Walk through the Dark. To order a copy, click [here].

with Eva Piper

Part 1 of 5

Don Piper, her husband, was in a horrific automobile accident. He was pronounced dead. In his book, 90 Minutes in Heaven, he writes about being in heaven for 90 minutes.

Eva’s life went from being mother, minister’s wife, and school teacher to absolute decision maker.

When notified that her husband had been involved in a car accident, God spoke to her, and “…he has two broken legs and a broken arm.” That’s all He said. Would these words be enough for Eva as she began her Walk through The Dark?

Going right instead of left was a decision that led Don to his death, his trip to heaven, and then back to Earth.

Eva was called out of class to the principal’s office where she was told of her husband’s accident. God spoke to her, “…I’ll be with you….he will be OK…he has two broken legs and a broken arm…”

What else also comforted Eva before going to Herman Memorial hospital to be with her husband? Eva shares how the hugs, the comforting words, the simple touch from friends and co-workers lifted her up.

Some quoted script and prayed with her. Would these words be enough as Eva began her Walk through The Dark?

Don just wanted to die. He cried out to God, “Why did you send me back to earth?”

Eva was told by one of Don’s doctors, “If Don does not breathe deeper, he is going to die.” After telling Eva her husband would die, the doctor turned and walked away.

But God had told Eva He would be with her, that Don would be OK, and that he had two broken legs and a broken arm. The doctor just said, “He will die…” What’s next in Eva’s Walk through The Dark?

Eva called a close friend who drove for hours to visit Don. Eva does not know what he told her husband.

Prayers were lifted for Don. Prayers were answered. Don began to fight. Have you given up on life? When a friend calls you, crying for help, go to them, listen and pray with them. Then what?

Eva had not left the hospital, but some friends show up and kidnapped her and took her out for dinner. What’s next in Eva’s Walk through The Dark?
