< Previous www.TerryLowry.com February 2019 the Presidency and Congress, that we had a better plan to repeal and replace Obamacare and we didn’t get the job done. And that gave Lizzie Fletcher an opportunity to use that as one of her platforms when she ran. But I will point out she’s done nothing on this since she’s been elected. I believe in market-driven solutions. I believe there are ways to bring down the health insurance premiums, allowing insurance companies to sell health insurance across state lines and provide price transparency. I will point out that we don’t want Medicare for All. That would bankrupt our country. I think if you allow market-driven solutions it will place the decisions where they should be, which is in the hands of the patient and the doctor versus the insurance company. Hunt: The care that we are getting here in the United States is the best in the world. The issue, though, is not the care; the issue is the cost. We need to focus on ways to drive costs down while not changing the care. The Democrats want to offer a Medicare for All sys- tem, which is tantamount to the VA, but that is not the kind of system that we need for this country. … allow insurance companies to sell their policies across state lines, which will create competition within in the market. The other thing that I applaud the Trump administration for doing is allowing prescription drug cost transparency, which enables the consumer to look at how much each drug costs and shop around… I think every American should be allowed to choose their own plan. If you are a young person and you don’t need a really big comprehensive plan, you should be given the option... If we do those three things, it will dramatically cut costs. But, first and foremost, we need to repeal Obamacare and replace it with something that is more cost effective… Lowry: Leading Democrats want to outlaw private and employer provided health insurance. Why do they want to do this? Siegel: …They want Medicare for All. It is my belief that they’re doing it in order to buy votes. They believe that if they provide that then they will have people vote for them and keep them in office. Hunt: Unbelievable! There is a heavy socialist agenda that I think we are seeing from the Left that is really unconstitutional. They are trying to high-jack our rights… Lowry: The economy is booming and Democrats are laser-focused on destroying the economy to defeat Trump, hurting millions of American workers. They don’t care. What’s the solution? Siegel: … It’s hard to believe and it boggles my mind to think that the Democrats would rather sacrifice the economy and jobs in order to defeat Donald Trump as President… We have the best economy and the lowest job unemployment… For the Democrats to try and defeat Trump…they’re trying to push our country toward Socialism. This, again, is all about power and buying votes. They hate President Trump so much that they are willing to acrifice our economy… Hunt: We have to get out and vote. We also have to spread the truth about Trump’s success. We have the lowest unemployment that we have seen in this country. 16 Weekdays 2:00 to 3:00 PM on FM 100.7 The Word. We are safer, particularly with how President Trump handled Iran and Qassem Soleimani who was a terrorist. We are safer and the world is safer… … you have to ask yourself a very valuable question: Are we better off now than we were three years ago as a country? And the answer, unequivocally, is absolutely. I’ll ask another question: Are we better off now than we were eight years ago? And the answer again is: absolutely. Lowry: Democrats want to outlaw drilling and do away with fossil fuels, creating higher fuel and energy costs. Is this a practical and workable solution for short and mid-term? Siegel: No. It’s hard to believe that [Congresswoman] Lizzie Fletcher [D-CD 7], who has the energy corridor in this district…her votes have been with Pelosi and the Democrat Party. She has voted against the interest of the people in CD 7 and voted against the energy business… For the first time ever, we are an exporter versus importer. What this means for Houston is better jobs and a stronger economy. It also means safety and security of our country. Look at Europe. Europe is importing from Russia... As a result, they’re being held hostage. At any point… [they] could turn off the spicket. [Editor’s Note: do you remember the OPEC embargo of the 70’s] Hunt: Under no circumstances is that true. We absolutely have to have fossil fuels because hydrocarbons are in everything that we do. They are a part of our lives. The United States is also doing our part in being good stewards of our environment by lowering our carbon footprint over the past five years. If we don’t get people in China, India, and Russia on board, we are going to destroy the oil and gas industry at no gain to the globe. We need to tell the truth about what that means on a global scale. We also need to tell the truth about how reliant the world is on the oil and gas industry from Texas. Texas is the third highest producing oil and gas entity in the entire world. Do you know what doing away with fossil fuels would do to our state and communities? It’s an absurd conversa- tion. What is your opinion on this issue? Siegel: Look at Venezuela. It is a Socialist county that has gone from being one of the strongest, wealthiest countries to being poor and starving. That is the example of Socialism. And the idea that they want to outlaw the ownership of private property…they are trying to destroy the freedoms that our Constitution set out for us. I am a big property rights advocate and Texas has boomed because of that. I think that we need to com- municate to independent voters what it means to them when and if they vote for a Democrat who pushes Socialist policies. And I think that what happens, Terry, is on the surface it sounds really good – health- care for all and open borders and free college… There is nothing free in life. Someone’s gotta pay for it. And we’re at a tipping point in this country. George Soros is pouring money into Texas because they know if they can take Texas, they can take the country. And they will push us down a path of Socialism and we won’t be able to come back from it. Hunt: I want to be able to reserve the right to protect my family from an intruder. I have a one-year old daughter and a wife. If I didn’t have the right to protect them with the right to bear arms that’s given to us by the 2nd Amendment…well, then I don’t know what kind of country people are trying to turn this into. You are absolutely right by calling it “personal property”; that’s exactly what it is. And we need to do a better job of keeping the guns out of criminals and terrorists. But the idea of taking guns away from law-abiding citizens is absolutely absurd. Lowry: Why not your opponent? Cindy Siegel: There is no other candidate in this race that has the experience that I have. As a CPA, I’ve spent 35 years fighting the IRS. I know how to balance budgets. I kno w ho w to cut costs because I have done that with my clients. Additionally, I have the strongest and deepest Republican credentials of any of the candidates. I support our Party. I’ve worked hard to get Conservative Republicans elected to office and will continue to do so. Actions speak louder than words. I think people can see by my actions that I am about service: service to my clients, service to my community, and service to my Party. And I will fight for the voters of CD 7 just like I fought the IRS for my clients and as the Mayor of Bellaire Wesley Hunt: What makes me different is that I am willing to die for this country. I have proven that. I am not running for Congress for a title or retirement or name. I am not a life- long politician. I am doing this because I believe I have the kind of leadership that we need. I am desperate to preserve our values and our way of life and translate our Conservative values on to the next generation.
